They are all motorised 2 wheels. To many, they are simply motorcycles. But to aficionados, they are worlds apart.
So what difficientiates a motorcycle, a scooter and a moped?
Let’s start with the moped. A moped really a motorized bicycle, usually equiped with a small capacity (50cc) two-stock engine or electric motor.
A scooter is characterised by automatic transmission and a step-through frame allowing the rider to ride with both feet on a running-board and knees together. Traditionally the engine capacity are small (up to 125cc). Now there are maxi-scooter with engine capacity up to 400cc.
The distinction between moped and a scooter/motorcycle is increasing blurred.
How do you classify the bike on the right?
With a design like a scooter but with padders, how do you classify it?
In many China cities, this is causing difficulties for the legislator and at the same time, danger to pedestrians.
Finally, a motorcycle is is a two-wheeled vehicle powered by an engine. On a typical motorcycle the operator sits astride the vehicle on a seat, with their hands on a set of handlebars and their feet supported by footpegs.

Tomos is owned by Hidria Corporation, a large multiple division European holding company. The main manufacturing base is in Slovenia and also the Netherlands.
While they produce motorcycles, they are best know for their moped. It looks like Tomos main market is in the United States.

IZH is yet another Russian weapon manufacturer that produces motorcycle (see also Degtyarev Plant). Maker of the famous AK-47, the company, Izhevsk, also produces cars and motorcycles.
Izhevsk Motorcycles produced the first Russian motorcycle in 1929.
Beside typical road motorcycle, they also produce police bike, cargo bike and this queer looking swamp rover.
The over-sized, low-pressure tires allow it to move over swamp, snow, mud with ease. Perfect for Russia.

Minsk Motorcycle is a company in Berlaus (former Soviet Union). The company seems to be in some kind of trouble.
It is also know as Motovelo Corp but the website motovelo . com is now taken over by cyber squatter. (Which is why I’m not putting a link.)
Very interestingly, Minsk even has a club in, guess where, Vietnam. Here is an interesting story of the Mighty Minsk.
